LOS ANGELES -- Kobe Bryant made 18 free throws without a miss and scored 14 of his 36 points in the fourth quarter, and the Los Angeles Lakers rallied late for a 99-96 victory over Oklahoma City in Game 3 on Friday night, cutting the Thunder's second-round series lead to 2-1.

Metta World Peace swiped the ball from Kevin Durant and hit two free throws with 12.9 seconds left for the third-seeded Lakers, who shook off the memory of their late collapse in Game 2.

When Durant missed a potential tying 3-pointer before Andrew Bynum blocked Serge Ibaka's shot at the buzzer, the Lakers' frenzied crowd celebrated only their second victory in the last six playoff games.

Durant scored 31 points before missing his last shot for Oklahoma City, which could have moved to the brink of its second straight trip to the Western Conference finals. Instead, the Thunder lost for the first time in the postseason.

Game 4 in the back-to-back set is Saturday night.

Russell Westbrook and James Harden scored 21 points apiece for the Thunder, who couldn't match the Lakers' late-game execution after soundly out-executing the Lakers in Game 2. Los Angeles finished Game 3 on a 6-2 run in the final 33 seconds, all on free throws.

Bynum had 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Lakers, who got 12 points apiece from Pau Gasol, Ramon Sessions and Steve Blake. Gasol also had 11 rebounds and six assists in front of the Lakers' energized crowd, which didn't appear worried while the Lakers flirted with an 0-3 deficit, which has never been overcome in NBA history.

Oklahoma City's bench celebrated a 92-87 lead on Westbrook's breakaway dunk with 2:55 to play, but the Lakers trimmed away with Gasol's free throws, Bryant's layup and several possessions of tenacious defense. Bryant's free throws put the Lakers ahead with 1:09 to play.

Durant immediately hit a go-ahead jumper with a hand squarely in his face, but Bryant added two more free throws -- his 15th and 16th -- to put Los Angeles ahead 95-94. The Lakers finished 41 of 42 from the line, and the Thunder were 26 of 28.

The game was the first of four second-round NBA playoff games in just over 48 hours at Staples Center, also the site of the NHL's Western Conference finals between and Kings and Phoenix on Thursday and Sunday. The top-seeded San Antonio Spurs will face the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday in an afternoon game before the Thunder and Lakers play Game 4.

Thanks to the NBA's shortened schedule, the Lakers are playing their first back-to-back playoff games since May 22-23, 1999, in the second round against San Antonio during another season shortened by labor strife.

Staples Center was bubbling with energy even before tipoff, with thousands of Lakers fans actually deigning to wear the gold giveaway T-shirts that are usually tucked under chairs or slung over shoulders.

The Lakers responded to the buzz, jumping to a 16-6 lead while Oklahoma City missed its first five shots and used two timeouts. The Lakers led by 12 points in the first quarter, but Oklahoma City erased it quickly in the second quarter when Bryant left the game.

Harden was booed the first time he touched the ball in his first game at Staples since World Peace gave him a concussion with a vicious elbow in the Lakers' penultimate regular-season games.

Tempers flared in the second quarter when Westbrook furiously attempted to prevent World Peace from tying him up for a jump ball. World Peace's knee came down on Westbrook's leg during a brief skirmish including Jordan Hill, and both Westbrook and World Peace received technical fouls.

Oklahoma City surged in front during the third quarter, but the Lakers kept it close despite a rough quarter from Bryant. Kendrick Perkins' interior defense largely prevented Bynum from scoring in the low post, but the Thunder also struggled for offensive consistency.

The Lakers stayed in Game 3 with incredible free-throw shooting, making their first 28 foul shots before Bynum missed with 9:15 to play.

Game notes
Before the game, Gasol received the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award for his charity work as a UNICEF ambassador. World Peace won the award last season. ... Perkins had six points in 30 minutes, but coach Scott Brooks put no limit on his minutes in the back-to-back games despite the veteran's sore hip. ... NBA Commissioner David Stern, Denzel Washington, Snoop Dogg, The Game, Ice Cube, Redskins QB Robert Griffin III and the Los Angeles Kings' Mike Richards, Drew Doughty and Jarret Stoll and attended the game.
Most of my friends are Asian, and yet I have never seen anyone eat a big slice of pizza in a University cafeteria with chop sticks while checking their iPhone. I have seen women do laundry with chop sticks, and men fight each other Kung Fu style with chop sticks, but pizza is meant to get your hands dirty.
Even though Far East Movement became an Asian Hip Hop group back in 2003, I hear more about Korean Pop bands. FEM has performed with Jay-Z, Kid Cudi, Sean Paul, Pitbull, Lil Jon, LMFAO, Ya Boy, Flo Rida, The Black Eyed Peas, and now Justin Bieber.

Fox Entertainment president Kevin Reilly hinted at changes coming to American Idol, and they may already be starting at the show’s parent company, CKx.

According to sources, New York-based chief operating officer Kraig Fox is out. With the company since 2005, he was considered CKx’s head of music and played a key role in deals involving Idol partnerships (like title sponsors for the annual summer tour) and management.

According to an insider, Fox made a swift exit two weeks ago after an announcement came from new president Marc Graboff, the former head of West Coast Business Operations for NBC Universal Television Entertainment, who only arrived at the company in January of this year.

Although Fox, who was promoted in Sept. 2010 from chief corporate development officer and evp, was not involved in the day-to-day operations of 19 and its Idol properties, he was active in the careers of select Idol finalists, like season 10’s Haley Reinhart. Other alums that 19 currently manages include James Durbin, Stefano Langone and Casey Abrams.

All season 10 Idols, including Pia Toscano, are currently co-managed by 19 and Red Light Entertainment (winner Scotty McCreery and runner-up Lauren Alaina are co-represented by Red Light and Simon Fuller’s XIX Entertainment) which handles the likes of Tim McGraw, Dave Mathews Band and Phish, among others, but another source tells THR that partnership will not continue for season 11's grads or beyond. Rather Jason Morey, former manager of Miley Cyrus (the two split in February), has been brought in-house to 19-CKx work on the music side.

Reps for CKx and Red Light were unreachable.
Where does it end? Guess my Lakers lean doesn't look too good now. I'll just keep waiting this out to bet LA. F the market I'm following my numbers!! lol

Is the Lakers age on b2b this big of a deal? It's the playoffs no one gets tired. LA has almost basically figured OKC out, don't think Brooks has enough time to change up

Someone calling themself Jon C. Hopwood rewrote the Kim Kardashian bio on IMDB. Here’s what was written:

Kim Kardashian is emblematic of the shallowness of American culture in the first two decades of the new millennium. While some cultural critics call her the prime avatar of the “famous for being famous” faux celebrity crowd, she along with Paris Hilton is a new breed of cat whose celebrity comes from the release of a s*x tape and the canny exploitation of the resulting publicity. Like her good friend Miss Hilton (their relationship predates Kim’s “celebrity”, Kardashian is possessed of photogenic good looks but is short of any other discernible talents outside of the bedroom. Both expanded their celebrity by becoming reality TV “stars.”

The bio has been changed to something else now, so the only thing left of interest is the fact she is 5 feet 2 inches tall, and not 5 feet 2 inches wide as she appears below in her short wig Vogue photo shoot.

Courtney Stodden is still trying her hand at modeling, and failing miserably, but it’s fun to watch her try. After all this is America where effort isn’t always rewarded with money and fame, unless you’re a total whore in a bikini. From behind Courtney looks 50 not 17. I not sure what the problem here is, out of shape, older than she says, or something doctors still can’t find in their vast medical libraries. Courtney ruins everything, even corn rows.

Do us all a favor Courtney, run into the water and don’t stop.

In 1979, Donna Summer -- who died of cancer on May 17 at age 63 -- and Barbra Streisand were two of the biggest singing stars on the business. Their music played across the globe. Summer was with Casablanca Records and Streisand with Columbia. But despite their stature and the layers of execs behind their careers, getting the two women to duet together on the chart-topping single "No More Tears (Enough is Enough)" happened in one whirlwind week, according to Summer's longtime friend, songwriter Bruce Roberts.

PHOTOS: Donna Summer's Life and Career

Roberts and partner on the single, songwriter Paul Jabara, had just co-written "The Main Event" for Streisand. Roberts had known Summer since they met in the mid-seventies when the singer was living in L.A.'s Nichols Canyon.

"We said, 'Wouldn't it be fabulous to write a song for Barbra and Donna?' We wrote the song in literally ten minutes," Roberts tells The Hollywood Reporter. "And [Streisand’s son] Jason Gould, who is now a very close friend, was a fan of Donna's."

The two called up Streisand and before they knew it were driving over to the singer's house in the Malibu Colony with Summer.

"Paul and I just trapped them in a room and played the song for them and before any of the business people could try and stop it, it was too late. They loved it and started singing it," says Roberts, who has also written songs for the likes of Cher, Elton John, Celine Dion, kd lang, Whitney Houston, Alice Cooper and Dolly Parton.

Within a few days, the two singers were in the studio. "Barbra was not as comfortable in the genre of disco or dance music, so I first went in and sang Barbra’s part as a guide vocal. It was finished overnight. It was just finished so quickly. Before any of the lawyers could stop it, it was out as a record. They didn't know what hit them," says Roberts. The song -- about sending a lover packing because "turns out to be like every other man" -- went on to spend two weeks atop the U.S. singles chart.

Roberts also recalls going with Summer and Jabara to meet with David Geffen around 1980 when the music mogul was looking to sign her as his first artist on his new Geffen Records label.

"We took her out to meet David at this restaurant on Melrose and had a lovely dinner and we told her that David was the best thing in the music business, which he is and always will be because he respects creative talent," he says. "We told her he was a good guy and she signed with him."

Today, as Roberts sees it, "people don't give her enough credit for being such a brilliant writer and changing pop music which she did. Electronic dance music is based on what she did when she started. All her riffs she did with producers Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte, it's based on all that. She really started a whole genre of music — going into the studio and singing 'love to love you' in a couple of takes. She would sing everything in a couple of takes that was brilliance of it."

"She was always called the Queen of Disco but it was so much broader than that. She could sing in so many different kinds of voices, so many different ranges, in loud beautiful aggressive tones and soft quiet tones. She could control it in any range she was singing in which is very rare," says Roberts. "I wrote her last number one Billboard record with her, a song called 'To Paris with Love' and we just did it in my house and she literally got in front of my mike and I played a couple of chords and she sang for an hour. This music flowed out of her like a waterfall."

Before she died, Summer was in the midst of recording a number of dance tracks with Roberts, and had been planning to record an album with legendary producer David Foster, with whom she had been performing recently. "She wasn’t thinking about her legacy," he says.

Yesterday, a friend, veteran A&R exec Carol Childs, called Roberts up to reminisce about Summer. "Years ago, Donna had been wearing a dress my friend admired and she said to Donna, 'That dress is to die for.' And Donna basically said, 'Don't ever say that. This dress is to live for, not die for.' She lived her life like that."
